The Craftsman Style

The American Craftsman style has its roots in the late 1800's English Arts and Crafts Movement championed by visionaries like William Morris. It was a reaction to the Victorian preference for ornamentation which had been fueled by the industrial revolution. Here in America, Gustav Stickley and the brothers Greene & Greene helped grow the style, featuring durable American woods like red and white oak and sturdy, "honest" designs.

Vintage Craftsman Interpretation

Like Shaker, we often use Craftsman style cabinets in the kitchen as a bridging style that can be at home in either traditional or modern interpretations. We are fortunate to work with very talented cabinet makers, which is so important in delivering the quality of craftsmanship that is necessary for this style of cabinetry. As another less-is-more kind of style (like Shaker, and like Modern in that regard), the Craftsman style really benefits from extra attention to detail, proportion and careful choice of materials in order to be successful.
